I really appreciate the tickets that you have provided for my family. It really means a lot to us that someone cares about us Veterans ,especially being disabled. We try to take full advantage of these opportunities as it isn’t something we can’t afford to do as a whole family. With that being said I would like to let you know how we were treated at the Martinsville track by the parking/ADA staff. When you arrived at the track, you do see an ADA sign on the highway to turn at the light by the Wendy’s. Once you make that turn there are two left turns. Neither turn has an ADA sign and there is no indication that you need to go straight either but we decided to go with the turn into Gate 17 since it is at least marked as a track entrance. I thought fortunate for us we were following someone else who was ADA. I still asked the attendant at the entrance if this was the right way and he said it was. Well turns out we were not in the right spot and several ADA cars were bottled into a clustered area where the staff was unable to help. We were stuck. They tried to park me on the side of a steep hill in parking lot I but I had to express to them I can’t get out of my vehicle on a steep hill because I am on crutches. The commotion did draw out a supervisor who told us to take it up with Nascar tomorrow which didn’t help the current situation at all. The parking staff had a little commotion amongst themselves and came back and told us ADA was full anyways. I had to beg to just not be parked on a hill. We did get told shortly after that we could leave to get to the newly opened ADA lot for cart assistance but that we are probably stuck now. So that was not helpful at all. At that point we were left to find parking on our own because the commotion was too much for the staff. So we do our best and find a spot for both of our cars. Because we were left with no help to park, I ended up parking beside another ADA vehicle. I didn’t notice it was a wheelchair van because why would that be parked out there like we were? Well I struggle to get out of my vehicle because I have a broken left foot. I am on crutches and its newer to me so it is a struggle. Martinsville was actually my first attempt to trying to get out after my surgery. We start unpacking and the next thing I know the ADA golf cart comes up on me chewing me out for parking beside the van that was for a wheelchair. I only know this now because he still has the man in the chair with him. They saw us parking and circled back around to let us know. After the last 20 minutes of confusion and the fact I had already unpacked; I didn’t really want to move because it is my left foot that is broken so I have to do a lot of work to just get back in my truck. My buddy said he would move the truck so he does. Because we were left to park on our own, it was left it up to me to direct traffic in that area so he could move my truck. That is right, I am on crutches signaling traffic so I can get my truck moved again. Before the ADA cart left with the man in the chair, I asked him if we could get a ride and he informed us he’s not supposed to be picking anyone up out there at all. I was witnessing him pick up the guy in the wheelchair van so I found that to be odd so I asked for his name. He told me his name is Jay and that he doesn’t care who or what I call, because he doesn’t work for the track directly. So we hang out a bit, which was long enough to see him come to get two older women from our same area. I was discriminated against. I had to crutch all the way down the hill to the track. It was hell and top it off Jay drove right by me with nobody on his cart down the hill. He was letting me know it was “screw me.” We got down to the road that goes around the track and at this point I needed assistance. I was soaked and my heart was just racing. I tried to ask one cart for help and he just kept driving and then I asked another and I was told I would have to crutch the opposite direction to the ADA lot to get a ride which was further away then the turn 1 entrance we needed to get to. At this point maybe I am scrutinizing everything being so mistreating but when I got up to the staff with metal detector wand, he wanted my to do all kinds of moving for him. I had to ask him to please just circle around me instead of me spinning for him. I was beat by this time and people were all around me so it made more sense that the non handicapped staff employee works around me. By the time I got to my seat I was sick from over exerting myself. I never even tried to move the entire race. I was just there stuck on how I was mistreated. I thought it would be easier once we left but to no avail every single cart at Martinsville is in use except the ADA carts. The ADA carts have to wait at least 45 minutes before Nascar allows them to be in use. The way I look at this is, is that carts are allowed to be used by people who don’t necessarily need them but the people who do need them are just stuck. I guess its a “what are you gonna do about it” scenario if you are handicapped. I was just so done with the treatment from the very beginning and had no faith in the ADA staff at this point. I crutched back to my truck. I was actually offered support from several fans but never any staff members. Hopefully you read this and can have something done about the signage for the ADA entrance and the training for handicapped individuals and to be honest that guy Jay doesn’t need to be working there if he can chose who to discriminate against. Like I said this was my first attempt at getting out of my house since my surgery October 5th and I was so beat up and bruised under my arms that I am still recovering. I couldn’t even sleep Sunday night and called the track first thing Monday and spoke to Justin who was supposed to relay the information but I haven’t heard back from them. I do plan on reaching out to Martinsville again if I do not hear back.
