I have been a Sammy Hagar fan since before VOA was released and then he joined my favorite band of all time. I got to see Van Halen when they did the reunion tour in the early 2000’s but Eddie was not at his best so when I had the opportunity to see Sammy’s residency last night for FREE (Thank you Veteran Tickets Foundation - Vet Tix) I jumped at the chance! My expectations weren’t high considering that Sammy is 77 years old(!!), but I was wrong, Sammy had great energy and his voice sounded pretty good (couldn’t hit all of the high notes anymore, so no “Dreams”) Joe Satriani did an admirable job and there are not many lead guitarists who could fill in for Eddie Van Halen but he was one of them They played everything from Sammy’s early days with Montrose, to his solo career, Van Halen, Chickenfoot and the song that he recently released, “Encore, Thank You, Goodnight” which he says Eddie came to him in a dream to help him write They even went back to Van Halen’s first album with “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love” and Michael Anthony carried the lead vocals on that one Seeing my all time favorite Van Halen song, “Humans Being” from the movie “Twister” performed live and having Kenny Chesney come out and sing “When Eagles Fly” just made the night even better A great night at the Dolby Theatre at Park MGM with Brandon Shawn!
